A therapist should be more than an expert observing from a distance.
I aim to be a supportive, caring, and attentive partner in the work—someone who can help you approach painful experiences without having to face them alone.

James Higa, LCSW, MPH
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Sierra Madre, California, specializing in trauma and PTSD. I provide in-person psychotherapy as well as telehealth to clients located in California and New York.
I have worked extensively with adult and adolescent survivors of childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and relational trauma for 15 years. I began my career as a therapist with the Crime Victims Treatment Center in New York City, where I ran a group for male survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
I earned my Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health from Columbia University. I have received advanced training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II).
My approach is grounded in a simple idea: safety and connection between client and therapist create the conditions in which deeper emotional work becomes possible.
